Light is the basis of every photograph, but to a large extent of life on this planet. That's why it makes sense to think about how and what you want to tell with light, how light shapes your photos, and how you can influence it to make your message unusual and creative. Light and shadow are the basis of the spatial illusion that the photographer works with. Common 3D space in two-dimensional photography is mainly represented by the light structure of the image and it is up to the author whether to emphasize or suppress the impression of space, volume and structure using plastic light, eventually backlight and other lights.
This publication brings many years of experience of professional photographer and teacher Jan Pohribný, QEP, who will give you a fresh look at creative work with light on illustrative examples and analyzes of his own work and selected works of leading Czech and foreign photographers. You will not only have the opportunity to confirm or discover for yourself your years of proven knowledge of photographic work in natural daylight or in the studio, but also the unconventional procedures and possibilities of modifying artificial and daylight without having to own costly professional equipment at all costs. The emphasis here is on original and simple solutions to work with light, from which it is possible to gradually build even more complex ones, as discussed in the chapter on combined light. An important part of this publication is devoted to the overlap of photography into other media, creativity and natural playfulness, where light and photography play the main roles, but their partners on the scene are for example. painting (chapter Luminography) or scenography and sculpture (chapter Light projection and objects). The final chapter (Imprint of Light) also reflects contemporary trends in photography and art. Therefore, in addition to almost forgotten, but inspiring methods of photogram, coloring, etc., you will mainly touch digital manipulation of the image and light, whose possibilities seem almost endless, but without deep knowledge of how the light actually creates the image, they can become a bit spiritless.
